Artist Roundtable: Art, Museums, and Equity

By Tacoma Art Museum (other events)

Sunday, October 30 2016 2:00 PM 3:30 PM PDT

ABOUT ABOUT

With 30 Americans on view at Tacoma Art Museum and ongoing nation-wide conversations about equity in the art world, this is an ideal time to talk with artists about this important subject. What are the experiences of African American artists in the museum and gallery industries? What motivates and inspires each of our panelists to create art today? Is it valid in 2016 to organize an exhibition around race? How have African American artists influenced the broader whole of American art? How can museums be more inclusive institutions? Hear about these topics and more from artist panelists John Bankston (whose work is on view in 30 Americans) with Seattle’s Paul Rucker and Tariqa Waters. The roundtable will be moderated by TAM’s Chief Curator Rock Hushka, with plenty of time for audience questions and answers.
